Wedgwood China

Perhaps one of the best known long-running producers of porcelain teaware, Wedgwood China, was founded in 1759 in Staffordshire, England. The company’s products were sold abundantly as they were of superior quality to much of the contemporary teaware available and also replicated the hard-paste porcelain of Chinese teaware.

With the successful innovation of its “Fine Bone China”, Wedgwood fused the pure white finish of traditional Chinese teaware with the durability of less delicate stoneware to create china tea sets of immense popularity. Following on from this, the company also innovated with classics such as Jasperware, a coloured hard-stoneware that gave rise to the iconic “Jasper Blue” style.
